Jacob’s Ladder

You can read the story in Genesis 28 verse 10 to 19

Jacob was on a journey from Beer-sheba to Haran.

It was a long journey and he needed to sleep.

He took some stones for a pillow, possibly the stones were heated up by the sun during the day and he used them to keep himself warm during the night.

When he was asleep, he had a dream of a ladder or a stairway that reached from earth into heaven.  There were angels going up and down and the Lord stood at the top.

The Lord gave Jacob a great promise like the promise God gave to Abraham. God promised He would give him the land and that he would be the father of a great nation. He also promised that through his family all the families of the earth would be blessed.

We know that that blessing that God promised is through the Lord Jesus.

He is the promised Savour.  All who receive Him and trust in him as Savour are blessed with everlasting life.

He came down to earth to die as a sacrifice for sin.

There’s a ladder to heaven for me,

There’s a ladder to heaven for me;

‘Tis Jesus, the Saviour, who died on the tree,

He’s the ladder to heaven for me.

  1. There’s no other way I can see,

To save a poor sinner like me;

But Jesus, the Saviour, who died on the tree,

He’s the ladder to heaven for me.

  1. O won’t it be grand over there,

With all things so bright and so fair.

With Jesus, my Saviour, who died on the tree,

He’s the ladder to heaven for me
